June 2009 conference of ICCFR cancelled

Dear Colleague, it is with great regret that I have to advise you that the June 2009 conference of ICCFR, in conjunction with ONAF in Canada, has had to be cancelled. The organising committee of ONAF in Montreal took the decision because the of the lack of numbers of participants registering. The numbers registered so far would not have made for a satisfactory conference. There was always a possibility that the current downturn in the world economy would have an impact and, sadly, this does seem to be the case since we do know of many people who had said that they could not attend because of the expense. The Committee also wondered about the recent anxiety generated by the swine 'flu outbreak and whether this further retarded registrations.

However, the conference in Malta in March 2010 will go ahead and there will be information on the website soon in relation to this.

I hope that you have not been inconvenienced by this decision. Certainly ICCFR Board members had already bought air tickets and so we will go to Canada, attend the Scientific Day and then hold a Board meeting over the days of the conference, with a big focus on the Malta Conference.

Thank you for your tolerance of this situation and I trust that I will see you in Malta in 2010.
